The City of Cambridge urges residents planning to celebrate Halloween to follow the guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and to engage in only lower or moderate risk activities to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19. The Cambridge Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit works all year to service the community by enforcing the rules of the road. Our goal is to reduce the number and severity of crashes in the city. Many of the current enforcement programs are a direct response to community complaints regarding speeding and other violations. The Department also spends time educating the public when there are any infrastructure changes, like new bike lanes or traffic patterns. We are committed to fostering greater traffic safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

Join the Cambridge Public Library for a Teach-In facilitated by the team of Transition Magazine. Contributors to the current issue on Sudan—Fatin Abbas, Alex De Waal, Nisrin Elamin, and Alden Young—as well as members of the local Sudanese community will speak and discuss the present-day conflict in Sudan, its roots, what stands to be lost, and how to move toward a lasting peace. The Community Development Department (CDD) is leading a community process to update zoning for Central Square. Zoning is the set of rules that control the allowed shape, density, and use of the property, and the goal of this update is to allow for and encourage the continued growth, redevelopment, and evolution of the district. Guided by community goals identified in prior planning efforts, zoning recommendations will focus on - increasing housing, - creating public spaces to build community, and - supporting our diverse retail, cultural, and non-profit community.

The City of Cambridge today announced that the city will advance to Phase IV, Step 1 of the Commonwealth’s Reopening Plan, as set forth in Governor Baker’s COVID-19 Order No. 66 on May 6, 2021. The City has remained at a modified Phase III, Step 2 since March 22, 2021. Gathering limits in the city for event venues and in public settings will increase to 100 people indoors and 150 outdoors on May 6, 2021, in accordance with Governor Baker’s COVID-19 Order No. 63 as amended on March 22, 2021.

Did you know that last fall Cambridge Department of Public Works (DPW) collected 15,000 barrels of yard waste? Thanks to help from residents, that's 833 tons of leaves that didn't clog storm drains or pollute our local rivers and streams. Rake or sweep leaves from paved surfaces (driveways, sidewalks, and curbs) for curbside yard waste collection. Rake early and often and keep leaf piles away from storm drains. Yard waste collected in Cambridge is composted to make rich soil - further reducing our city's climate impact.
