Read to a Dog - for Adults! (O'Neill)
Come spend time with a cuddly friend! Trained therapy dogs provide warm and nonjudgmental reading companions, this time for adults. Registration for each 10-minute time slot is required and begins on Tuesday, April 1 by calling or visiting the O’Neill Branch Library at 617-349-4023.
Professor Bugman: Spooky Bones and Creepy Crawlies (Central Square)
Explore bones and meet real-live creepy crawlies in this science-based program with entomology expert, Professor Bugman!
Registration is required for this program. Please register each child attending the program (adults do not have to register themselves). For questions, please contact the Central Square Children's Room at 617-349-4012.
This program is recommended for children ages 4+ and their caregivers.
Stay at Home Order
On March 31, Governor Baker extended the stay-at-home advisory and non-essential business closure that was set to expire on April 7 until May 4, the same date that schools are to remain closed until. The 10-person limit on gatherings in the state has been extended as well, following a similar extension by the federal government.
Preschool Programs
The Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP) provides access to free school-day, school-year preschool for all Cambridge 4-year-olds and some 3-year-olds. CPP, managed by the Cambridge Office of Early Childhood, is a mixed-delivery system that allows families to choose preschool programs that best fir their family's needs. DHSP Preschools are a partner provider of CPP.
Specialized Stretch Energy Code
On January 23, 2023, the City of Cambridge adopted the commonwealth of Massachusetts's new
Municipal Opt-in Specialized Stretch Energy Code, joining the communities of Brookline and
Watertown. The code, which goes into effect in Cambridge on July 1, 2023, is to support the City's
Net zero goals.
Household Waste Collection Day Saturday November 5
The last Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day of 2022 for residents only will be held on Saturday, November 5, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., at 50 Mooney Street. Please enter the event via Smith Place off of Concord Avenue. The City’s Department of Public Works (DPW) and Cambridge Police Department will be on site to assist with traffic.
Narcan Distribution Event
The Cambridge Public Health Department will be handing out free Narcan, test strips, CPR face shields, and other harm reduction materials at the Central Square Branch of the Cambridge Public Library on Thursday, October 23 from 1 – 3 p.m. Everyone can help save a life from opioid overdose!
