On March 19, Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui and City Manager Louis A. DePasquale activated the Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund for Covid-19 to raise money for individuals and families impacted by the virus outbreak. Tomorrow, April 8, the City will be releasing the eligibility and distribution guidelines and application process for Cambridge residents to apply for funds donated to the Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund. The City of Cambridge seeks to assist as many people as possible through these funds.

Young people ages 10 to 14 who love to write are welcome to share their ideas and writing. There will be time for share-outs/workshopping, as well as group or solo writing. Snacks are provided! This week we will be joined by guest author Patrick Joyce, author of Back in the USSR and Strawberry Fields. If you are attending for the first time, registration is helpful, but not required.

Join us for a fun, interactive introduction to American Sign Language (ASL) and inclusive communication. Participants will learn practical everyday signs, respectful ways to interact with Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, expressive communication techniques, and simple real-life ASL scenarios. This activity-based workshop includes silent communication challenges, group participation, and engaging sign language games designed to build confidence and connection through communication. Recommended for ages 10 and up.

Youth ages 10-16 are welcome to join three sessions (Tuesdays, February 3, 10, 24) of the table-top game Dungeons and Dragons (DnD), as we build our cooperative role-play and storytelling skills. The first session will include time to build characters and review rules of gameplay. Following sessions will follow a storyline through to the final session. Registration is required, as the program is capped at 6 players. Please plan to attend all sessions! Registering for Session 1 includes the following weekly sessions. No prior DnD experience is required, and experienced players are also welcome to join. The City of Cambridge does not discriminate, including on the basis of disability. Test the limitations and capabilities of popular Generative AI tools and how they’re quietly reshaping the way we connect with technology and each other. We'll explore the support gaps they're filling, where we need to draw boundaries and why real world human connections matter more than ever. No prior experience with Generative AI necessary. Caregivers and educators are encouraged to attend. Open to ages 18 and up.

The Cambridge Community Development Department is inviting income eligible Cambridge residents are to apply for the Resident Bike Lottery Program from March 10 – March 30, 2025. Residents can apply for a voucher to buy a new bicycle from a participating bike shop. Applicants can apply for a voucher for a pedal bike (up to $800), e-bike (up to $2,000), or an e-cargo bike (up to $3,000). Residents with a chronic disability can apply for a customized adaptive bicycle or electric wheelchair attachment (up to $3,000).

Being a Firefighter is a noble, rewarding, and exciting profession where you have the opportunity to help people when they are most vulnerable. In addition to firefighting, the job includes a wide variety of skills including emergency medical care, control of hazardous materials releases, protection of the environment, extrication of trapped people (and animals), collapse rescue, water/ice rescue, elevator rescue, public fire education, fire prevention, etc. The deadline to register for the MA Civil Service Firefighter Entrance Examination is 8-27-24.

The City of Cambridge announced that, beginning Saturday, December 4, it is expanding its free COVID-19 testing program to five days per week. Through a new partnership with CIC Health, the City will launch a pilot appointment-only testing site by offering 300 appointments on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at CIC Health’s 295 Third Street location in Cambridge. In the coming weeks, the number of appointments at this pilot testing site will be expanded.
