Celebrate reading with fellow new readers at the Valente Branch Library! We will explore a book from the Beginning Reader collection, spend time reading together, and do an activity! Copies of the book will be provided via the library; participants may check out a copy to take home after the program. This is open to students in kindergarten through second grade who are practicing reading independently; their grown-ups are welcome to join us. Registration is required. Gund Kwok is the first all Asian and all female lion dance troupe in the country. They will present an interactive story about the origins and significance of the lion dance, followed by a lion dance performance that will include the traditional "eating of the greens" and the unrolling of good luck banners. After the performance, the audience will be invited to try on the lion heads and take photos. Recommended for children of all ages and their caregivers. The phased rollout of the Cambridge Police Department’s Body-Worn Camera (BWC) Program will serve as a critical step in strengthening transparency, accountability, and trust between officers and the community. This important initiative is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to public safety and comes after extensive planning, policy development utilizing national models, and best practices in training. The department has worked over the past two years to develop a program that meets the highest standards of accountability while protecting civil liberties.

The MBTA plans to close parts of the Red Line in Cambridge in February in order to make track improvements, inspect tunnels, and make other upgrades. Free shuttles will replace regular train service on parts of the Red Line.

The event will feature vehicles and interactive exhibits from Cambridge Police, Fire, Public Works, Animal Control, Emergency Communications, and the Park Rangers, along with our partners from the Massachusetts Environmental Police, Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, and Professional Ambulance Service.
