Join us for a demonstration of capoeira, a unique Afro-Brazilian art form combining martial arts, dance, music and acrobatics. Following the performance, children will have the opportunity to learn basic capoeira movements. Recommended for children of all ages and their caregivers. Funding for Vacation Week Programming: Live at the Library has been generously provided by the Cambridge Public Library Foundation.

Hands on learning through music, dancing, Spanish and fun! Rockabye Beats brings the magic of music to babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Little ones and their caregivers will enjoy live music, instrument jams, musical games and even a little Spanish, all designed to spark creativity, joy and connection. No registration required.

Join us for a seasonal story time on Halloween morning. Costumes are welcome as we read stories, sing songs and assemble a craft to celebrate witches, ghosts and pumpkins. No tricks, only treats! For children of all ages and their caregivers.

This workshop will be a conversation run by Harvard graduate students for young adults living or working in Cambridge. We all know what it feels like to be isolated, despite being surrounded by people. So many young adults yearn for connection and belonging but didn’t know where to start—we are overcommitted but under-connected. In this workshop, we will come to together to discuss, share stories, brainstorm, and provide real tools to build deeper purpose, foster connection, and belonging between young adults and the local communities they live in. We believe young adults and community members should be part of—not apart from—the places they live. A civically engaged community is a stronger, heathier, safer community. Whether you're a student, a local organizer, a resident, or someone just curious about what we’re building - we’d love to have you there. Harvard Book Store and the Cambridge Public Library welcome Susan Choi—author of the National Book Award-winning novel Trust Exercise—for a discussion of her new book Flashlight, a novel tracing a father’s disappearance across time, nations, and memory. She will be joined in conversation by Gish Jen—acclaimed author of Thank You, Mr. Nixon and The Resisters. Registration is required.

Join clinical herbalist Mo Katz-Christy for a walk around the Alewife Reservation to learn about the medicine, botany and magic of medicinal herbs. We will discuss medicinal plants in Cambridge and their specific indications and properties. Bring a notebook as we delight in the bounty of our neighborhood! Registration is required. Join us for a guided 60-minute art tour featuring public artwork in East Cambridge and learn about how Cambridge Arts commissions and maintains art for public enjoyment. We will visit three public artworks, and two sidewalk poems. Meet at Centanni Park between the Multicultural Arts Center and the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds. This event is part of our Time Out for Public Art series in collaboration with Cambridge Arts. In October, these will be 60-minute art tours where we visit multiple sites as a group.
