The Community Safety Department is a fully funded city department that exists outside of the traditional scope of public safety. Our mission is to provide residents with an alternative police response that will prioritize issues of mental and behavioral health in some of our most vulnerable communities.

The Cambridge Highlands neighborhood, located on the northeastern edge of the city is comprised of a commercial and light industrial area as well as a more residential area at its western end, bordering Belmont. The Fresh Pond Reservation borders the neighborhood to the south.

While trucks and tour buses are allowed to operate within the City of Cambridge, they are still restricted from certain streets, as defined below, unless delivering to addresses on those specific streets. All restrictions are for 24 hours a day, seven days a week unless otherwise noted

What Works Cities Certification represents the international standard of data excellence in city governance. The Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) reported on today that the number of known COVID-19 deaths among Cambridge residents has reached 100 and that 1,380 residents have tested positive for the disease since the first cases in the city were reported on March 13, 2020.
