Reading Interests: This group will explore the burgeoning genre of contemporary romance. Example selections include: Honey and Spice by Bolu Babalola and Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner. The Boston Festival Orchestra returns to the Cambridge Public Library for the second year of its AAPI Heritage Concert, celebrating the extraordinary breadth of musical voices from Asian American and Pacific Islander composers. This program brings together works that reflect personal history, cultural inheritance, and bold contemporary expression — offering a powerful snapshot of the many ways identity and artistry intersect. Join BFO Artistic Director Alyssa Wang, BFO musicians, and guest artists for an intimate chamber music experience that pairs performance with conversation, inviting audiences to engage with the cultural, historical, and human stories behind the music. This concert continues the BFO’s commitment to amplifying AAPI voices and creating space for meaningful artistic exchange. This meeting is part of the Mayor’s ongoing commitment to keeping the public informed about efforts to ensure community safety. We will provide updates on the investigations into the shootings that occurred earlier this summer and share information about the City’s continued initiatives to reduce violence. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions, express concerns, and engage in dialogue. This meeting aims to foster community involvement in identifying and implementing effective strategies to decrease violence and enhance safety in our city.

Design Your Own Space Mission Patch! Young space enthusiasts are invited to imagine and create their own space mission patch, just like real astronauts! Using circular templates, markers, and space-themed stickers, children will dream up their own space missions: Will they fly to Mars? Visit a distant galaxy? Search for alien life? Each child will choose a mission goal, name their spacecraft, and design a patch that tells the story of their adventure. As they draw, children will hear inspiring stories about real-life women astronauts, encouraging early interest in space careers and diverse role models in STEM. Finished patches will be displayed during the event to celebrate their creativity and curiosity. Recommended for children in grades K-5. This special activity is part of Massachusetts STEM Week 2025 and is organized by The Space Consortium, the local space education and outreach nonprofit behind Massachusetts Space Week (April 20-26 2026).

Join us for a lively discussion of a great book in person at the Main Library! Snacks will be provided. For ages 7-9 and a parent or caregiver. This month's book is Charlie and Frog by Karen Kane. Charlie’s boring summer gets a lot more interesting when he sees a mysterious woman who gives him a desperate message (in American Sign Language) and then disappears. Luckily, local girl detective Francine (Frog) has been looking for her next case, and ASL is her first language. They’ll have to work together to decipher clues and find ways to communicate and solve the mystery before it’s too late! Copies of this month's book are available at the Children's Desk. Both caregiver and child should read the book before the discussion to participate. Registration is required — only one registration is needed per family.
