Come spend the afternoon getting deeply acquainted with May's Herb of the Month - the plantain! We’ll spend time getting to know the plant through drawing, taste, science, and stories of herbalists’ experience. Bring your journal and leave with an in-depth account of botany, history, use, safety issues, preparation and dosage, and much much more. The group will meet at the Collins Library (64 Aberdeen Ave) and walk to Fresh Pond together. This program is part of a series hosted around the area with guest herbalist, Mo Katz-Christy. Come each month to build your materia medica or just once to meet a new plant friend!

Kids in 6th, 7th and 8th grade can come to the Library to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Twilight series! We will watch highlights from the movies, make fan art and celebrate sparkly vampires. Snacks provided. No registration necessary.

The first session will include a character-building introduction followed by play continued into the next two sessions. No prior DnD experience is required, and experienced players are also welcome to join. Registration is required, as the program is capped at 8 players. Please plan to attend all sessions! We'll record what we find in our nature journals and play nature games. All materials will be provided. In the instance of bad weather, this program will take place in the Children's Room. Join the Cambridge YWCA, the Cambridge LGBTQ+ Commission, and the Central Square Branch Library for a screening of the short documentary Ephemera about Libby Bouvier's activist button collection. Libby Bouvier has spent most of her life collecting an archive of cause buttons and other "ephemera" from the women’s movement, the LGBT movement, and other radical causes she's been directly or indirectly involved with over the decades. This is a moving image portrait of her and her collection. Produced by Lily Bouvier. After the documentary screening, we'll have an opportunity to share about our own activism and to use the Library button makers. We'll have magazines, paper, markers, and more so you can make your own buttons to share your activism with the world! Get creative with us, and join other local activists!

Celebrate National Moth Week in style! Step 1: Drop by the Collins Branch to make a moth mask with guidance and costume advice from Cambridge Wildlife Arts. Step 2: Debut your mask on the red carpet at the second annual Cambridge Moth Ball on Wednesday, July 23 from 7:30-10 p.m at the Fresh Pond Reservation's Kingsley Park. Learn all about moths and their role in the ecosystem, participate in "mothing," and take photographs of moths. Costumes encouraged for children & adults!
