This year, the City of Cambridge awarded 84 scholarships of $3,000 each for a total $252,000 to Cambridge high school seniors and others pursuing higher education. Since the program’s inception in 1993, the City has awarded 1,353 scholarships totaling over $3.4 million.

You may be aware of public health’s role with COVID-19, but did you know that the work is much more extensive? Public health is about protecting the health of an entire population. The Cambridge Public Health Department will be handing out free Narcan, test strips, CPR face shields, and other harm reduction materials at the Central Square Branch of the Cambridge Public Library on Dec. 9 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

When a snow emergency is declared, parking is not permitted at ay time on these street segments. Snow emergency arteries aid the movement of fire apparatus, ambulances, police vehicles, and other emergency response vehicles in the event of heavy snow.

This month's book is The Homework Machine by Dan Gutman. Four very different students are stuck sitting together at the “D” table, but form an unlikely alliance when one of them creates a machine that can do their homework for them at the press of a button. Soon, though, tensions form and even when they try to put it behind them the machine takes on a life of its own. Copies of this month's book are available at the Children's Desk. Both caregiver and child should read the book before the discussion to participate. Registration is required — only one registration is needed per family. The City of Cambridge Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS) will hold a Patriots' Day Observance event on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., on the Cambridge Common, located outside of Harvard Square surrounded by Massachusetts Avenue, Garden Street and Waterhouse Street.
