Thea Hopkins, a member of the Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe, is an award‑winning songwriter known for her Red Roots Americana style. Her work has been praised internationally, performed at major venues, and recorded by Peter, Paul & Mary. Her newest album, Blossoms & Ghosts, was released in February 2026. Asa Peters and Jim Peters, members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, perform with the Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers, a collective dedicated to preserving and sharing traditional Wampanoag songs, dances, and cultural practices.

Join the Cambridge Public Library in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month by welcoming Yiyun Li, the author of the memoir Things in Nature Merely Grow, the winner of the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Memoir, as well as several award-winning novels, including The Book of Goose. In addition to the Pulitzer Prize, Things in Nature Merely Grow was a finalist for both the National Book Award for Nonfiction and the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award as well as the recipient of the presitigious Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction. After a reading from her work, Yiyun will appear in conversation with Grace Talusan, author of The Body Papers, winner of the Massachusetts Book Award for Nonfiction and the Restless Books Award for New Immigrant Writing. This hybrid event is cosponsored by the Cambridge Public Library Foundation. Registration is required.

Due to the heat emergency declared by the City of Cambridge, this performance has been moved to the Lecture Hall on Level 2 of the Main Library. Robin Byrde is a Boston-based singer-songwriter who enjoys making music in many different genres including pop, rock, folk, and soul. Originally from Southwest Virginia, Robin moved to Boston in 2017 to pursue a degree in opera performance before finding their own unique voice and style. You can often find Robin busking in the Public Garden or the Downtown Crossing T station; don't be afraid to come up and say hello! PARK SOUNDS 2026 brings free outdoor musical performances featuring local artists to the front lawn of the Cambridge Public Library Main Branch. These events are all-ages. Bring a chair, food, and loved ones to celebrate the summer! Funding is provided by the CPL Foundation in memory of Janet Axelrod.

This Month's Read: 2026 Hugo Award Nominees for Best Novelette and Short Story (listed here) Reading Interests: The group concentrates on science fiction and fantasy. An advanced reading schedule is published each summer. Example selections include: Neuromancer by William Gibson and The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. Requirements: A love of speculative fiction and a desire to talk about books. The group is friendly and informal. How to get the print book: Copies of the print book are set aside at the Main Library Question and Answer desk on the ground floor. Visit the Main Library at 449 Broadway during service hours and a staff member can help you check out a copy. E-books and digital audiobooks are available on Libby or Hoopla. On Tuesday, October 6, 2026 Cambridge Police responded to a shooting incident on Rindge Ave near Russell Field. At approximately 3:20PM Cambridge Emergency Communications received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting gunshots in the vicinity of Russell Field in North Cambridge. Upon arrival responders located one victim suffering from related injuries. That individual has been transported by EMS to a local hospital, their condition is not currently known. Police from Cambridge and regional partners are on-scene investigating the circumstances. Our on-scene command staff do not believe there is any on-going threat to public safety. Community members can expect a heighted police presence in the area while the crime scene is processed. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Cambridge Police Detectives at (617) 349-3300. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the CPD Website.

Design Your Own Space Mission Patch! Young space enthusiasts are invited to imagine and create their own space mission patch, just like real astronauts! Using circular templates, markers, and space-themed stickers, children will dream up their own space missions: Will they fly to Mars? Visit a distant galaxy? Search for alien life? Each child will choose a mission goal, name their spacecraft, and design a patch that tells the story of their adventure. As they draw, children will hear inspiring stories about real-life women astronauts, encouraging early interest in space careers and diverse role models in STEM. Finished patches will be displayed during the event to celebrate their creativity and curiosity. Recommended for children in grades K-5. This special activity is part of Massachusetts STEM Week 2025 and is organized by The Space Consortium, the local space education and outreach nonprofit behind Massachusetts Space Week (April 20-26 2026).
