The City of Cambridge Water Department spends millions of dollars each year to ensure the safety of our drinking water. A vital link in this effort is the Water Department's Cross-Connection Control and Backflow Prevention Programs.

Join City Staff for the sixth pop-up recycling event on Wednesday, August 26 from 4-7:30 p.m. at 80 Haskell Street (in the parking area between Rindge Baseball Field and Bergin Park).

Every fire company in the city is an EMS unit, staffed with Firefighter EMTs, Paramedics, and Medical 1st Responders answering more than 7,000 EMS calls per year, providing optimal medical care 24/7/365, under any conditions.

The 1% for Public Art component of the Kendall Square / Main Street project was the creation of artist designed bike racks. Six artists were chosen by an art jury to participate in this project. Each of the selected artists created three or four designs that were represented in a gallery exhibit by drawings, models and artists’ statements. The artists had to balance his or her artistic mission with factors of successful functionality, ease of maintenance, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and economy of cost. During the exhibit and at the April 10, 2012 Kendall Square Public meeting, members of the public were asked to comment and vote on the different designs. Approximately 650 votes were received. On June 4, 2012 the selection committee met and selected 5 bike racks to be used in Kendall Square. The selection committee included city staff, a member of the Bicycle Committee and two members of the Kendall Square Advisory Committee. In making their selection, the committee considered the public input (voting and comments), functionality of the racks, appropriateness for Kendall Square, and artistic interest. Since the initial installation, some of the artist designed bike racks have been moved to new locations throughout the City.

The Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA), with financial support from the City of Cambridge Affordable Housing Trust (AHT), has successfully purchased 31-37 Mellen Street from Lesley University. The site will be developed into affordable housing designed for families.

Cambridge GIS has an assortment of maps and atlases produced by City of Cambridge staff. In some cases where individual departments have their own map page, there is a link to redirect to the appropriate Web site.

The Cambridge Human Rights Commission (CHRC) is dedicated to upholding and safeguarding the fundamental human rights of residents and visitors to the City of Cambridge. You can use our 1-inch button maker, 2.5 inch button maker, 3-D Doodle pens, or Janome sewing machines. The Library will provide basic supplies. *This month you are invited to join in a community sewing circle to help create a Moth Banner. Anyone wishing to use the sewing machines must have completed a Sewing 101 training through the Library. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of multiple temporary street closures throughout the weekend due to scheduled community events, including the East End House Summer Block Party and the Found Boston Vintage Market.
