Meditation for Wisdom and Renewal: A Retreat for Elders (Main)
Join us for an afternoon Community Retreat. Mindfulness offers a gentle yet powerful way to meet the challenges of aging with calm, resilience, and compassion. In this retreat, we will explore simple practices that can be adapted for all bodies and abilities. Together, we will create space for quiet contemplation and personal reflection, while also fostering a sense of community among elders walking this stage of life side by side. Whether you are new to meditation or have practiced before, you will leave with practical tools to support your well-being and cultivate greater wisdom in daily life. Come as you are—all levels of experience are welcome. Presented in partnership with the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center.
Create your own terrarium! (Main)
In honor of Earth Day, spend your afternoon at the Library creating your own terrarium. In partnership with Emerald City Plant Shop, you will have the opportunity to learn more about different kind of plants and plant care. This event will be conducted in the front park area of the Library. In the case of rain, the class will be moved to the community room. The Library will provide needed supplies.
Hand Embroidery for Mending (Valente)
Hand Embroidery will cover an assortment of basic embroidery stitches that can be used to embellish your clothing and hide (or highlight!) holes and stains! Leave class with a sampler of embroidery stitches you can refer back to, along with knowledge of tools, materials, and techniques for stitching up embroidered designs. Suitable for beginners with little or no embroidery experience, or those who want a refresher on the basics.

Summer Reading: Hooping Program with Wildkat Hoops - IN THE PEABODY SCHOOL GYM (O'Neill)
Due to the weather, this program will happen inside the Peabody School gym. Please enter the gym through Door 8 on Haskell St.
Put on your dancing shoes for an unforgettable workshop of hula hoop magic with Kat Suwalski! You will learn basic hooping moves while increasing hand-eye coordination, strength, balance, and agility. No prior hooping experience is required. Hoops are provided. Recommended for children ages 5 and up and their caregivers.

Harvard Book Store and the Cambridge Public Library welcome Ben Wikler—political organizer and strategist who served as the chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin from July 2019 to July 2025—for a discussion of his new book, This Is The Plan: How to End America's Meltdown and Save Democracy. He will be joined in conversation by Danielle Allen—James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University, acclaimed author of Our Declaration, and the forthcoming book Radical Duke, releasing June 2026. Join us in this twelve-week Tai Chi Paradigm practice, which focuses on the mind and body connection. Tai Chi is a fluid sequence of movements choreographed in a low impact routine.
Sifu Mynor Diaz has been learning and teaching Tai Chi classes for over 20 years. This is an in-person event at the Main Library.
Due to the popularity of Sifu Diaz's classes, we expect participants to attend all sessions and participation in this program will be decided by lottery.
To enter the lottery, please register for the waitlist below. This waitlist will constitute the pool from which 15 names will be drawn randomly.
Registration will open Wednesday, February 5 at 9AM and close Wednesday, February 19 at 5PM. Participants selected will be notified on Saturday, February 22.
