This CPR class will cover life-saving skills for infants, children and adults. We will use multi-media and hands-on practice to be sure students acquire skills and confidence to assist in a life-saving medical situation. This class will also cover training and the use of AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for all ages, along with life-saving skills in choking situations. Students will receive their certificate upon completion of class. Please note that the City is not responsible for the content or training equipment. Space is limited (20 adults), registration is required. Note for CONFIRMED registrants: Your spot is held until the program start time. Once the program begins, we will fill in open spots from a day-of waiting list until the program reaches capacity. Please plan to arrive at the library approximately 15 minutes before the start time to ensure adequate time to check in before the program begins. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please join the Library in celebrating the 250th anniversary of the publication of Phillis Wheatley's poems with a poetry reading and workshop. Organized by the poet Artress Bethany White—the co-editor of Wheatley at 250: Black Women Poets Re-imagine the Verse of Phillis Wheatley Peters—this event will open with an African drumming prelude, followed by a presentation on Wheatley's life and work as well as a reading by contemporary poets inspired by Wheatley and collected in Wheatley at 250, and concluding with a short writing exercise designed to engage the audience with Wheatley's poems.

Join us for our Halloween celebration with a special appearance from Professor Bugman! His "Spooky Bones and Creepy Crawlies" program focuses on comparative skeletal anatomy. We will handle and pass around real animal bones, skulls and skeletons while talking about what bones are, what they do, and how to tell them apart, and learning more about the animal they came from. Then, we'll dive in and compare this to the exoskeletons of arthropods, focusing on a selection of our creepier bugs. Prof. Bugman will begin at 4:30. Treats provided and costumes encouraged! This program is for children and their caregivers.

Presented by Castle of our Skins, "A Little History" is a 60 minute interactive recital that tells the simplified stories of nine legendary figures in Black History through original music, poetry, and engagement. Recommended for school-age children and their caregivers.
