Expect brief road closures and traffic impacts near Central Square and Riverside due to the Winter Classic 5K, which will take place on Sunday, December 7, at 9:30 a.m. The course begins and ends at University Park Commons near Central Square.
5th Annual Juneteenth Celebration & Parade
Join us for the 5th Annual Cambridge Juneteenth Celebration & Parade, themed 'Roots, Culture & Community!' The event kicks off with a parade departing Massachusetts Ave & Pleasant St. at 10am, followed by a celebration at Riverside Press Park featuring free music, food, performances, activities, and more.
DPW Celebrates 5 Years of Citywide Curbside Compost Program
This Spring marks the five-year anniversary of the citywide curbside compost program. Since 2018, Cambridge residents have diverted more than 6,500 tons of food waste from the trash. To celebrate, the Department of Public Works Recycle Division has announced a new food waste drop-off waste site located across from 10 Education Circle in the Cambridge Crossing part of East Cambridge. Any resident may use this drop-off location to dispose of their food waste.

City's Department of Human Service Programs Launches Fall on the Fields, Outdoor Activities for Jk-8th Graders Sept. 21 – Oct. 30
The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) launched its "Fall on the Fields," a series of free, outdoor experiences for Cambridge JK-8th graders, from September 21-October 30, from 3-6 p.m. on weekdays, at Danehy Park, Rindge, Hoyt, Donnelly, and Sennott Fields.
Earth Day Finished Compost Giveaway
The City of Cambridge will be distributing finished compost free of charge to Cambridge residents on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., at Joan Lorentz Park, (in front of Cambridge Public Library), 449 Broadway, Cambridge. The rain date is April 19 at same time and location.

New Programming Now Available For Older Adults
The Cambridge Council on Aging and Public Health Department (CPHD) have offered engaging programs to support the well-being of older adults, including monthly music jams and cooking workshops. The music sessions, led by Bobby Tynes and Friends, provided a lively space for community connection, creativity, and movement, while CPHD’s collaboration with East End House introduced hands-on cooking classes focused on nutritious, accessible recipes. Both initiatives received enthusiastic feedback, highlighting their positive impact on social engagement, mood, and overall wellness.
Fostering Neighborhood Vitality & Open Spaces
The last two years have highlighted the importance of access to outdoor open space. In FY22, the City launched the Our Parks, Our Plan process to develop an action plan for the City’s open space network, applying an equity lens to criteria that include park access and climate resilience.
