DPW Climate Resilience Zoning
On February 27, 2023, the Cambridge City Council adopted new zoning requirments to address the long term impacts of increased flooding and heat from climate change. They are based on the City's climate projections over the next 50 years and will be updated from time to time.
Common Victualler Licenses
A Common Victualler License is issued by the Cambridge License Commission and governed by Massachusetts General Laws, Ch. 140, Sec. 2-9. Every food service establishment in the City of Cambridge with capabilities for cooking, preparing, and serving food is required to have a Common Victualler License.
Cambridge to Launch Hampshire Street Safety Improvement Project
Through the Hampshire Street Safety Improvement Project, the City will add separated bike lanes to Hampshire Street between Inman Square and Broadway, creating a more comfortable biking connection between Inman Square and the Port/Kendall Square. We will also make improvements to existing crosswalks and changes to parking and loading.
Meadow Developing in Flagstaff Park to Restore Habitat
An area in Flagstaff Park is being converted to a meadow in the coming months in an attempt to allow more open areas of the City to be more natural. Adding natural areas to our parks and streetscapes will encourage a greater diversity of plant and insect species.

The establishment of the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) property tax rate by the Board of Assessors, subject to the approval of the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, is the final step in the fiscal process that begins with the submission of the annual budget to the City Council. The City’s Operating and Capital Budgets, property classifications, and property valuations are major factors in determining property tax bills.

Health Insurance Open enrollment for active City employees and non-Medicare eligible retirees will be held this year from February 10-28, 2025. Please review your current health insurance elections and submit any changes you would like to make via the online portal no later than Friday, February 28, 2025.
$450K In Covid Relief Awarded To 25 Cambridge Cultural Organizations
Applicants were eligible for up to $30,000 each via the Create Cambridge: Arts Nonprofit Recovery Grant from the City of Cambridge (managed by Cambridge Arts and the city’s Community Development Department), in partnership with the Create Cambridge cultural nonprofit coalition, with funding from the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
DCR Traffic Advisory
Beginning on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, and continuing through Sunday, September 7, 2025 (excluding Labor Day weekend), the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), in coordination with the City of Cambridge, will close two travel lanes of Memorial Drive between Hawthorn Street and Gerry's Landing Road to accommodate manhole repair work.

Specialized Stretch Energy Code
On January 23, 2023, the City of Cambridge adopted the commonwealth of Massachusetts's new Municipal Opt-in Specialized Stretch Energy Code, joining the communities of Brookline and Watertown. The code, which goes into effect in Cambridge on July 1, 2023, is to support the City's Net zero goals.
