On September 26, 2016, the Cambridge City Council approved an Order of Taking for the parcel at 139 Bishop Allen Drive, by eminent domain, for the purposes of affordable, senior, and/or transitional housing, as well as an appropriation of $3,700,000 from Free Cash related to the taking.

“Still Marching 1970-2017,” an exhibition of original photographs by Liane Brandon, opens with a reception sponsored by the Cambridge Public Library, the Cambridge Women's Commission, and the Cambridge Historical Commission. Light refreshments will be provided. Registration is not required. Liane Brandon received funding for "Still Marching" through a Local Cultural Council Grant from the Cambridge Arts Council.

Older adults are more vulnerable in periods of high temperatures because the body cools itself down less effectively - especially if you have medical conditions or take certain medications. Cambridge Arts and the City of Cambridge are distributing grants totaling $260,961 to 53 artists and cultural organizations for fiscal year 2024 through three funding opportunities that Cambridge Arts offered last fall—including Art for Social Justice Grants, Local Cultural Council Grants, and Organizational Investment Grants.

The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of multiple temporary street closures throughout the weekend due to scheduled community events on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1. The Cambridge Animal Control aims to reunite lost pets with their owners. If you find a lost dog or cat, please report it to the city or town where you found the animal. The pet will be held for a minimum of seven days, as required by the state.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is installing 200 new fully enclosed BigBelly bins starting in September 2025 to combat rodent activity and prevent litter. These new bins, which include both trash and recycling stations, will replace almost all of the open-top trash cans currently in the city.

Art on a nice Summer night? Nothing sounds better than that! Come to the Library and enjoy an art filled evening learning the techniques of acrylic painting. In partnership with artist Brooke Lambert, a professional printmaker and painter, she will take you through this guided art class. The library will provide all materials. Overall Cambridge Arts and the City are distributing more than $300,000 to 60 artists, cultural organizations and grant reviewers via grants and stipends this year through three funding opportunities offered by Cambridge Arts: Organizational Investment Grants, Art for Social Justice Grants, and Local Cultural Council Project Grants.
