Small businesses are an important part of Cambridge’s diverse and thriving economy. To support and promote current small business owners and aspiring local entrepreneurs, the Community Development Department’s economic development division offers a variety of programs, workshops, grants, and resources.

The City of Cambridge offers a range of free housing programs to help residents with housing stability and homeownership. Services include move-in and eviction prevention assistance, down payment and closing cost support for first-time homebuyers, and a comprehensive four-week First-Time Homebuyer Workshop open to anyone interested in learning about the homebuying process. Whether you’re seeking financial support or looking to purchase your first home, the City is here to help.

The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) offers summer camps and programs to Cambridge children and youth in grades K-8. Summer camps and programs include curricula that emphasizes social opportunities, creative projects, educational field trips, sporting activities, and more!

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will reconstruct sidewalks and begin resurfacing Route 28 in Cambridge (McGrath Highway and Monsignor O’Brien Highway). Work will include late-night/early morning detours for traffic heading north between Third Street and Broadway.

Residents are encouraged to organize gatherings that bring their neighbors together on Sunday, Sept. 18. Ideas include an open house, neighborhood party, potluck, service project, neighborhood clean-up.

CDD's Community Planning Division conducts open space planning throughout the city and oversees major design, construction and renovation projects for Cambridge's parks and playgrounds. Community Planning staff also frequently consult with City departments and other groups on open space projects.
