Join us for activities celebrating the theme of "Plant a Seed, Read" all summer long. Today's activity is bird and bug suncatchers. Explore color, light and creativity as you design a suncatcher to look like a stained-glass window. We will use colored tissue paper to fill frames shaped like birds, butterflies and dragonflies. Hang the finished masterpiece in a window to watch the sun transform it into a glowing display of color. Recommended for children ages 6-12 and their caregivers. Sending humans to Mars is hard. Bringing them back safely is even harder. Doing so while also having them perform cutting-edge science and exploration during the mission? A major challenge. Luckily, we can plan and test parts of our future Mars missions before we leave the ground. In this session, we discuss the design and completion of two analog (Earth-based, Mars simulation) missions: Project MADMEN and Pale Red Dot. Come experience life on Mars as we traverse rocky terrain for geology and astrobiology experiments, test different cooking methods to make Martian meals, and navigate emergencies in space. Using 30 languages represented in Cambridge, the new Welcome poster states, “You are welcome here,” and was woven together in a quilt-like design to represent the City’s rich cultural diversity. It also contains text to remind community members of their right to receive services and information in their preferred language, regardless of their immigration status. We encourage you to display this poster in a public-facing area of your department, like a reception desk. The poster is intended to convey solidarity with our immigrant community members visually. It can also be used as a tool for visitors to indicate the language they prefer to communicate in, which will help City staff coordinate appropriate interpretation or translation follow up.
