Creative Patching (Central Square)
Creative Patching will focus on how to repair holes, tears, and stains in clothing using fabric patches and hand embroidery techniques. Participants will learn about tools and materials for patching, and how to combine fabric patches with simple hand embroidery stitches to create eye-catching visible mends. Leave class with a sampler of techniques that you can refer back to when tackling your own mends at home. Suitable for beginners with little or no sewing experience.
Sewing 101 (Central Square)
In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of sewing machine operation and safety. This session will cover machine setup, basic functions, threading the machine, reloading the bobbin, sewing straight stitches, and recognizing when stitch tension has gone awry. We’ll also cover some safety best practices when operating a sewing machine. As we learn together, we’ll work on a simple sewing project—a drawstring bag—which most students will be able to complete by the end of the class. At the start of this class, participants will complete Hive Safety Training.

Art Installation’s Flowers ‘Bloom’ In Extreme Heat To Indicate Danger Of Our Warming World
When temperatures top 85 degrees, the flowers of “Heat BLOOMS”—a new art installation in Cambridge’s Harvard Square—bloom, like a visual thermometer warning of extreme heat. Three consecutive 85-degree days or hotter are considered a high alert danger by the Cambridge Public Health Department.

MAPS Working Group
The Mass Ave Planning Study Working Group will meet to discuss community feedback from Round 2 and provide input on the draft recommendations for South of Porter Square study area. Additionally, there will be a conversation with development experts on development feasibility currently, and the in the future, on Mass Ave.
Cambridge NITES with The Phoenix Landing
The Phoenix Landing will produce Mardi Gras in June, bringing the spirit of community joy and celebration to Lafayette Square (intersection of Mass Ave and Main St). Legless Lizard will bring the New Orleans-style Mardi Gras tunes. The event is planned for June 26, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
