Put on your dancing shoes for an unforgettable workshop of hula hoop magic with Kat Suwalski! You will learn basic hooping moves while increasing hand-eye coordination, strength, balance, and agility. No prior hooping experience is required. Hoops are provided. Recommended for children ages 5 and up and their caregivers. Funding for Summer Reading has been generously provided by the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Foundation and Friends of the Cambridge Public Library.

Beginning October 17th, weather permitting, the City’s contractor, E J Paving, will be performing partial roadway grinding and paving operations to enhance the road conditions on several sections of street around the City. The roadway grinding operation at each location is expected take two days followed by paving of the roadway later that same week, or the following week (weather permitting). For a list of street sections to be re-surfaced, please see below.

Here’s your chance to try an instrument in a judgment-free zone that encourages exploration and excitement! After an introduction to the instruments, participants get a chance to bow a violin, blow a horn or tap out a rhythm on a drum. Recommended for children of all ages and their caregivers. 6/24/25: This event is still on, but will be modified due to the extreme heat. Join us INDOORS at the O'Neill Branch to celebrate the end of the school year and the start of the summer! We will have food (INDOORS AND OUTDOORS), games and art. No registration is required. All ages are welcome!

Each Summer, the City of Cambridge is committed to ensuring a wide variety of programming for young people to enhance well-being, create more community connections and reduce incidents of violence. Building on many years of commitment to providing comprehensive programming for young people, the Department of Human Service Programs, Community Safety Department, Cambridge Police Department, and the Cambridge Public Health Department work collaboratively to offer various opportunities for youth engagement throughout the summer.

We invite children and their grown-ups to join us for a magical walk through nature. We will look for signs of fairies and build fairy houses. We will meet at Gerard Bergin Park (Haskell & Pemberton Streets), a short walk from the O'Neill Branch. In case of bad weather, this program will happen indoors at the O'Neill Branch. This program is presented as a part of the CPL Nature Club.

A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants 1 hour before the event. Registration is required to receive a Zoom link.

Choose from a selection of images and transform it into a print by carving the image into easy cut linoleum. You will love the satisfying process of carving away the linoleum to reveal the design. Once the carving is complete, the block will be inked and printed. Each person will take home a carved block for future use, and a collection of their own hand printed pieces!
