Born in São Miguel Azores, Portugal and raised in the U.S., Maria has dedicated her career to preserving and sharing the rich culinary and cultural traditions of Portugal. With her signature warmth and heartfelt storytelling, she brings recipes to life—not just as food, but as vessels of memory, love, and heritage. She is now working on her next book “Baking with Love”, her first children’s cookbook, Maria returns to the kitchen of her childhood, recreating the sweet recipes she made side-by-side with her grandmother. To assist families throughout the Commonwealth, the state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services launched a Nursing Home Family Resource Line on April 8. Through this dedicated telephone line, staff are connecting families of residents in nursing homes or rest homes with the information and resources they need.

The City of Cambridge and Police Department today announced they have contracted with Washington, D.C.-based Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), who will conduct an independent review of the Cambridge Police’s current training programs, policies, and protocols to make recommendations for the department and help evaluate areas of improvement.

The Cambridge Agenda for Children Out-of-School-Time (AFCOST) has been selected by the Commonwealth’s Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) to receive a $100,000 grant to fund a new registered apprenticeship program that will train a cohort of 25 out-of-school time (OST) staff.

The City of Cambridge announced it is extending outdoor dining in the City until 60 days after the end of the Commonwealth’s declared state of emergency. This announcement follows the Governor’s Executive Order last week, which gave cities and towns the flexibility to extend outdoor dining past the initial November 1 deadline.

Governor Charlie Baker will file legislation to extend certain emergency measures currently in place via executive orders that are set to expire on June 15 when the State of Emergency will be rescinded. Most restrictions, including limitations placed on businesses, will be rescinded effective May 29 as Massachusetts nears the goal of vaccinating four million residents.
