Cambridge Urban Forestry Division Celebrates 2024 Milestones
In 2024, the Urban Forestry Division of Cambridge Public Works planted 1,250 new trees and removed 5,000 square feet of pavement to create better planting conditions, enhancing the city's green infrastructure. The Division maintained a strong tree survival rate, with only 3.5% mortality for spring plantings, and expanded community engagement through the revamped Cambridge Urban Forest Friends newsletter, which saw over 105% subscriber growth. City Yard Waste Pickup Resumes April 3rd
The City of Cambridge offers residential curbside collection of Yard Waste from April 1 through December 31. Yard waste is banned from all landfills and incinerators in Massachusetts. This includes all leaves, grass, plants, shrub pruning and twigs. Place them on to the curb on your regular collection day by 7am or after 6pm the night before.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has announced the opening of a Safety Net Family Shelter at the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds Building, located at 208 Cambridge Street in East Cambridge. This initiative aims to provide shelter for families eligible for Emergency Assistance (EA) when they cannot be immediately placed into an EA unit.
