Summer Reading: Crafternoon (Collins)
Join us for activities celebrating the theme of "Plant a Seed, Read" all summer long. Today's activity is Tissue Paper Flowers. Learn to create flowers made from tissue paper. Build a bouquet to take home for yourself or share with someone special. Recommended for children ages 6-12 and their caregivers. Redefining Community Engagement
In FY22, the Community Development Department (CDD) established a Community Engagement Advisory Group for staff to share best practices and reflect on strategies to make engagement more inclusive and equitable. This Group developed a handbook on inclusive and equitable engagement best practices which will be published in September 2022. The handbook, which uses an anti-racism and equity lens to approach planning, implementation, and reflection of community engagement strategies, will be used to increase participation in public processes and programs.

Celebrate reading with fellow new readers at the Valente Branch Library! We will explore a book from the Beginning Reader collection, spend time reading together, and do an activity! Copies of the book will be provided via the library; participants may check out a copy to take home after the program. This is open to students in kindergarten through second grade who are practicing reading independently; their grown-ups are welcome to join us. Registration is required. American Sign Language Workshop: The Basics (O'Neill)
Signs for Inclusion: Fun & Practical ASL for Everyday Communication Join us for a fun, interactive introduction to American Sign Language (ASL) and inclusive communication. Participants will learn practical everyday signs, respectful ways to interact with Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, expressive communication techniques, and simple real-life ASL scenarios. This activity-based workshop includes silent communication challenges, group participation, and engaging sign language games designed to build confidence and connection through communication. New Programming Now Available For Older Adults
The Cambridge Council on Aging and Public Health Department (CPHD) have offered engaging programs to support the well-being of older adults, including monthly music jams and cooking workshops. The music sessions, led by Bobby Tynes and Friends, provided a lively space for community connection, creativity, and movement, while CPHD’s collaboration with East End House introduced hands-on cooking classes focused on nutritious, accessible recipes. Both initiatives received enthusiastic feedback, highlighting their positive impact on social engagement, mood, and overall wellness.
