Live at the Library: LibraryBEATS Drum Circle with Otha Day (Valente)
Join us at Donnelly Field (behind the Valente Library) for a joyful celebration with musician and educator Otha Day!
A Drum Circle is a highly interactive group of people who play drums and percussion instruments together to create in-the-moment music. Through the experience of rhythm and sound we experience what it means to beat as one heart: we become a vibrant community. This drum circle will include playful and accessible rhythm activities, games, traditional ensemble pieces, songs and most importantly, improvisation.
No experience necessary; all ages can participate. No registration is required.
In the event of rain, this program will move indoors to the Community Room of the Valente Branch.
Funding for Vacation Week Programming: Live at the Library has been generously provided by the Cambridge Public Library Foundation.
Songs, Stories, and Conversation in Mandarin (Valente)
Join us for an hour of songs, stories, and social meet-up in Mandarin Chinese with JingJing and Chelsea, two local mothers and educators. This fun and interactive session brings families together in a warm, welcoming environment.
This event is for children and their caregivers. In the first half, listen to engaging stories and sing lively songs. In the second half, children will do an activity, and everyone will have an opportunity to socialize.
There will be two events in this special Valente series:
Saturday, May 28
Saturday, June 14
Registration is helpful. Register for each session separately to receive an email reminder the day before the program. Include the total number of expected attendees in your registration.
Fun, Educational Bike Events for Adults
Expand the City’s bike safety education offerings by providing learn-to-bike and beginner urban cycling workshops for adults. More educational opportunities will empower more people to feel safe and comfortable using bikes to get around the city.
Improve Parks with Shade Structures and Seating
Make parks and dog parks more comfortable for visitors by building one to two shelters with seating for rainy or sunny days. This project would also fund additional benches and tables in various parks across the city.
Federal Grants
CDBG, HOME and ESG entitlement grants for affordable housing, community development and homeless services.
