The City of Cambridge Department of Veterans Services will hold a Patriots' Day Observance event on Monday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m., on the Cambridge Common. The event will also include a ceremonial reenactment by the National Lancers, of William Dawes’ historic horseback ride from Boston to Cambridge, then to Lexington, alerting the colonists of the British threat of 1775, and marking its 250th anniversary.

In observance of the Labor Day holiday, City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed on Monday, September 5, and payments will not be required at parking meters and parking meter pay stations. The offices at Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Avenue, will also be closed on the holiday, however, the cemetery gates will be open from 7 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

The Affordable Housing Trust will hold its monthly meeting in-person and via Zoom webinar. April's meeting, previously scheduled for April 23, will be held on April 30, 2026 at 4 p.m. at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave, in the Ackermann Room. Join the Cambridge Public Library in celebrating our Summer Reading theme—“Plant a seed, read!”—by gathering with us for a reading and talk with author and biologist, David George Haskell, author of How Flowers Made Our World: The Story of Nature's Revolutionaries, published just this past March. The recipient of mutliple starred reviews, How Flowers Made Our World has been described as “a work of real passion” (The New York Times) and “a seamless melding of poetry and science” (Wall Street Journal) and in it, David George Haskell, a two-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Nonfiction, argues that flowers “belong at the center of the story of how our world came to be.” Registration is required.

Join us for a demonstration of capoeira, a unique Afro-Brazilian art form combining martial arts, dance, music and acrobatics. Following the performance, children will have the opportunity to learn basic capoeira movements. Recommended for children of all ages and their caregivers. Join us to celebrate Jasmine Warga's A Rover's Story, which tells the story of a rover's journey to Mars and the challenges it faces there. We will celebrate by building some artful mechanisms with Playful Engineers! Use simple machines to create mechanical automata and solve problems similar to those faced by rovers on Mars - using materials you could find around your own home. Registration is required. This event is part of a special series promoting our 2026 Curious George Lecture (CGL) with Jasmine Warga, award-winning author of A Rover's Story, Other Words for Home, and many other popular children's books. Save the Date: the Lecture will take place on Wednesday, April 15, 6 p.m. at the Main Library. Funding is generously provided by the Cambridge Public Library Foundation.
