Back by popular demand! Join the Friends of the Cambridge Public Library for their used book sale! They'll be selling gently used children’s and adult fiction and nonfiction books at low prices to benefit the Cambridge Public Library. The book sale will be held on June 7-8 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at 20 Holyoke Street. Funds from the sales will be used to support Library programs.

The City of Cambridge is seeking a proven leader who can inspire the confidence of the community and police officers as the city’s Police Commissioner. The successful candidate will have exceptional management skills and a proven record of implementing community-focused solutions to public safety problems, along with a demonstrated ability to interact in a positive and effective manner with a diverse community.

As of August 2, the City of Cambridge will offer free COVID-19 testing three days per week, on Sundays from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at 50 Church Street, Mondays from 4:00-8:00 p.m. inside the Cambridgeside Mall, and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. inside the CambridgeSide Mall. No appointment is needed.

Join us at the Valente library for some dinosaur fun! It's your turn to be a paleontologist: use a chisel and brush to excavate your own tiny dinosaur. We'll play dinosaur trivia and look at dinosaur books! All supplies provided by the library. Recommended for ages 5+. Dinosaur coloring pages will be provided for younger children. As part of a national celebration of Public Works Week, the Department of Public Works (DPW) Commissioner Kathy Watkins and other City officials recently honored the recipients of the 2024 Commissioner’s Award for Outstanding Performance during a ceremony and cookout at the DPW yard. This award recognizes four employees of the DPW who have demonstrated exemplary work performance.

Cambridge welcomes immigrants and works to support their success and access to opportunity and advancement. CIRC acts as a centralizing organization in Cambridge to address immigrant rights and citizenship issues by providing information, referrals, and guidance to residents seeking assistance. CIRC also coordinates and collaborates with other city departments and external organizations and individuals that support immigrant rights and citizenship.

Harvard Book Store, the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, and the Cambridge Public Library welcome Judge Chile Eboe-Osuji—fourth President of the International Criminal Court, Distinguished International Jurist at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at the Toronto Metropolitan University, and a Special Advisor to the President of the University—for a discussion of his latest book End of Immunity: Holding World Leaders Accountable for Aggression, Genocide, War Crimes, and Crimes against Humanity. Learn about the local tradition of turning maple sap into maple syrup with Land's Sake Farm! Enjoy a maple sugaring themed story time, touch and explore the tools we use to make maple syrup, and try using hand drills to tap a demonstration log. This program is recommended for children ages 4 and up. Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required - please register only the children who will be attending the program.

After years of research, planning, and community engagement, the City of Cambridge is preparing for new greenhouse gas emissions reduction requirements for large buildings to take effect beginning January 1. The Office of Sustainability is reaching out to property owners covered under the Building Energy Use Disclosure Ordinance (BEUDO) to help them understand and prepare for the new requirements.

The Commission also promotes policies and practices that have a positive effect on the health, welfare and safety of LGBTQ+ persons who live, visit or work in the City of Cambridge.
