In this class you will be introduced to painting with watercolor, including techniques in color mixing, observational painting, and composition. At your own pace you will learn how to paint still life using watercolor in a relaxed and welcoming environment. This class will cover wet on wet and wet on dry techniques, masking, pressing, shading and light techniques, ink washes, and pattern making. You will come away from this class with many beautiful watercolor paintings of your own and a greater understanding and appreciation for the medium of watercolor. This class is suitable for beginners and can be adjusted for all levels of experience. This class is for adults. This class is taught by Brooke Lambert. Brooke is a professional printmaker and painter. She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and shows her work widely in New England, New York, and beyond. Brooke works in Studio 291 at Western Avenue Studios & Lofts in Lowell, MA. She is currently represented by The Society of American Graphic Artists and Equity Gallery in New York, NY and Galaray House, contemporary art gallery in Lexington, MA. She has thirteen years of teaching experience and currently teaches adult art workshops and holds artist demos at several locations in New England.

This class will cover wet on wet and wet and dry brush techniques, sgraffito/combing, overlays/glazing, gel mediums, pattern making, and masking. You will come away from this class with beautiful paintings of your own and a greater understanding and appreciation for the medium of acrylic painting. Registration Required. Visually capture your own story in a short graphic novel format from story planning to character development and illustration. All materials are provided and no prior art experience is needed! Registration is required, and registering for the first session 8/4 includes the following sessions on Tuesdays, 4/11 and 4/18. This program is for ages 10-18. The COVID-19 Vaccine Scheduling Resource Line is a dedicated telephone line available to residents 75 and older. The call center will be staffed with over 500 representatives who can provide live phone support to assist residents with booking an appointment. The line will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Live call center workers will be available in English and Spanish, and 100 additional languages will be available through translators. Call center workers will have the same access to appointments that users will see on the public website. The line can be accessed by dialing 2–1–1 and selecting the prompt for “Help Scheduling a Vaccine Appointment.”

Celebrate one year of the Cambridge KiOSK with an afternoon of live music, participatory activities, and community gathering in Harvard Square. The event will mark the KiOSK’s first year as a site for visitor information, cultural programming, and community connection. Visitors are welcome to stop by throughout the afternoon. Program schedule: 12:00–3:00 PM: Participatory activities, including screenprinting and a seedling exchange 3:00–4:00 PM: Cambridge Symphony Orchestra ensemble performance 4:00–5:00 PM: Reception recognizing the artists, organizations, community members, and visitors who have helped shape the KiOSK’s first year Throughout the event, visitors will also be invited to share ideas for the KiOSK’s next year. This event is free and open to the public.

City of Cambridge offices, libraries, and senior centers will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. The hours for the Gold Star Pool on Berkshire Street have been extended Thursday, July 2 - Sunday, July 5 (including July 4th) from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. In the event that the pool reaches capacity, swim times may be limited. Curbside collection of trash, recycling, food waste, and yard waste will still take place on Friday, July 3. If you are going to enjoy the fireworks and Boston Pops show from the Cambridge side, plan ahead and make sure you bring lawn and beach chairs, and water to stay hydrated.
