Join us to craft homemade gifts this holiday season. Learn to make one-of-a-kind beads from recycled strips of paper. Once the beads are constructed, thread them into a piece of jewelry for yourself or someone else. Recommended for children ages 6-12 with a caregiver. Join us for a guided 30-minute Tactile Talk featuring artist Randal Thurston’s transformation of a once-dark tunnel into a welcoming passageway with painted steel silhouettes and textured tilework. We will meet at the corner of Yerxa Road and Pemberton Street. This event is part of our Time Out for Public Art series in collaboration with Cambridge Arts. In September, these will be Tactile Talks, shorter visits perfect for all ages and abilities. Registration is required.

Curbside collection of trash, recycling, compost, and yard waste will be suspended on Thursday, November 24 and will be one day behind schedule the rest of the week. Street cleaning will be suspended on both Thursday and Friday November 24-25. Streets that would have normally been swept on Thursday, November 24 will be made up on November 29, and streets that would have normally been swept on Friday, November 25 will be made up on November 30. The CIC Health COVID-19 test site at 295 Third Street will close on Wednesday, November 23 at 12 p.m. and will remain closed November 24-26. Testing will resume as normal on Sunday, November 27.

Beginning April 3, 2023, the City of Cambridge will implement a one-year street cleaning pilot program designed to evaluate the effectiveness of its street cleaning operations, while seeking to reduce the impacts of towing on residents. During this pilot program, towing associated with street cleaning will not be enforced, though residents should continue to move their vehicles accordingly, following the posted street cleaning schedule. Additionally, parking tickets issued for street cleaning will be raised from $30 to $50.

Celebrate National Moth Week in style! Step 1: Drop by the Collins Branch to make a moth mask with guidance and costume advice from Cambridge Wildlife Arts. Step 2: Debut your mask on the red carpet at the second annual Cambridge Moth Ball on Wednesday, July 23 from 7:30-10 p.m at the Fresh Pond Reservation's Kingsley Park. Learn all about moths and their role in the ecosystem, participate in "mothing," and take photographs of moths. Costumes encouraged for children & adults!

Don’t think you have what it takes to use a sewing machine? Think again! In this FREE workshop, teens from the Cambridge Community Art Center will teach you how to properly thread a machine, sew a straight stitch, hem and unfinished edge, and secure your stitches. Practice by sewing colorful shapes onto small flags. Following the workshop, the flags will be made into a banner and displayed at the Library. No experience necessary. Voting has now ended for the eleventh cycle of Participatory Budgeting in Cambridge! From March 6-16, Cambridge residents could vote on projects to improve the City in PB11. Attend the PB11 Vote Results Party on March 20, 2025 at Cambridge City Hall (795 Massachusetts Avenue) from 6:00-7:30 p.m. to hear the announcement of the winning PB11 projects! This event is free for the public, food and drink will be provided.
