Vacancies are available for the American Freedmen Commission, Avon Hill Neighborhood Conservation District Commission, Cambridge Climate Committee, Commission for Persons with Disabilities Advisory Board, Half Crown-Marsh Neighborhood Conservation District Commission, LGBTQ+ Commission, Mid Cambridge Neighborhood Conservation District Commission, and the Public Planting Committee.

Participants design, build, test, and play with chain reactions and creative contraptions, like Rube Goldberg Machines, paper constructions, domino towers, exploding popsicle-stick snakes, and other awesome engineering explorations. This event is recommended for children ages 4 and up. Funding for Summer Reading has been generously provided by the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Cambridge Public Library and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

In honor of Pride month, we are celebrating the colors of the rainbow with tie-dye! Teens are welcome to tie-dye a provided shirt or bag or bring something of their own to tie-dye. Snacks are provided. No registration required, supplies are provided until they run out. The City of Cambridge does not discriminate, including on the basis of disability. Celebrate Earth Day at the Central Square Branch of the Cambridge Public Library! Come decorate a terracotta pot or recycled planter, then plant a seed in your new pot to take home to watch grow. We will adapt the tale “Baba Yaga” and perform our masterpiece for family and friends. Using mixed media, we will create our own puppets fit for a tiny stage. This four-week puppetry workshop is for youth ages 9-12. We will meet on March 6, 13, 20 and 27. No experience necessary! Registration is required. Participants must attend all sessions and have read a version of the tale before the first session. Stop by the Children’s Room to pick up a copy or call 617-349-4038.
