Following the tragic January 4th fatal police shooting of Arif Sayed Faisal, there have been calls by members within and beyond the Cambridge community for greater transparency, including the public release of the involved officer’s name. Please find an update with the latest information on steps that have been and are being taken since that tragic day.

The City of Cambridge is one of only 22 cities in the United States to earn the highest credit rating possible from Moody’s Investors Service, S&P Global Ratings, and Fitch Ratings. The City has achieved this distinction of earning AAA ratings from each of the nation’s three major credit rating agencies every year since 1999.

The Conservation Commission is responsible for administering the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act (WPA). The WPA is a state law governing activities in and around local wetlands, waterways and floodplains.

A site-based assessment team from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will arrive on Monday, August 18th through Thursday, August 21st to examine all aspects of the Cambridge Police Department policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services. Verification by the team that the Cambridge Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence. The State has announced that Cambridge and the Northeast Region of the Commonwealth will be downgraded from a Level 2- Significant Drought to a Level 1 – Mild Drought.
