The climate is changing, and we're all here on the planet together. Join us for a monthly community gathering and discussion of a variety of books about climate change. We will share thoughts, resources, and occasionally host special guests in a welcoming small-group environment. For our inaugural meeting, we will discuss Walden Warming by Richard B. Primack. Copies of the book are available at the Main Library Q&A Desk. E-book copies of the book are available to borrow immediately on the Hoopla app. Registration is required. Harvard Book Store and the Cambridge Public Library welcome Namwali Serpell—professor of English at Harvard University and acclaimed author of The Old Drift and The Furrows—for a discussion of her highly anticipated new book, On Morrison, an extraordinary assessment of Toi Morrison. She will be joined in conversation by Tracy K. Smith—the Boylston Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory at Harvard University, former Poet Laureate of the United States, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of the poetry collection Life on Mars. Registration is required to participate in this event.

To aid in the preservation and rehabilitation of these older buildings, the Historical Commission administers various federal, state, and local programs.

Happy National Senior Center Month! This September, the Cambridge Council on Aging joins the National Council on Aging and hundreds of Senior Centers across the country in celebrating how Senior Centers support and empower older adults. This year’s theme is “Powering Possibilities: Flip the Script,” inviting us to challenge outdated perceptions of aging and acknowledge the dynamic role that Senior Centers play in fostering creativity, connection, purpose, and resilience in later life.

The Cambridge Department of Public Works honored three DPW employees with the Ruth and Carl F. Barron Family Achievement Award on October 9, 2025. The Ruth and Carl F. Barron Family Achievement Award, established in 1992, is presented in recognition of outstanding productivity, distinguished performance and service to the City of Cambridge and Department of Public Works.

The Cambridge Council on Aging (COA) works to promote and support the health and independence of Cambridge seniors (adults age 60 and older).

Join us at the Cambridge Senior Center (806 Massachusetts Ave.) on Wednesday, September 25 at 12 p.m. This event is part of the ongoing commitment of the Mayor, City Manager, and Council on Aging to address the needs and concerns of Cambridge's senior residents. We welcome seniors and other community members to share their thoughts, questions, and insights.

Launched in July 2020, the City of Cambridge COVID-19 Housing Stabilization Program serves to provide short term financial assistance to individuals and families in Cambridge who are experiencing housing instability due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
