Middle Schoolers and teens can visit the Library and help us decorate for Pride Month! We will have craft supplies and decorations to help us celebrate. No registration is required. Snacks will be provided.

Come join us and sample a selection of books about the our environment and the natural world. Paint a pot and grab a plant of your own to take home. Registration is encouraged but not necessary.

Calling all middle grade readers! Meet up in the Curious George Room every third Thursday to eat pizza and talk about books with your friends. This month's book is "The Creepening of Dogwood House" by Eden Royce. Copies will be kept behind the children's room desk for pick up. Snacks are provided. This group is for ages 10-12. The annual Scholarship Fund, now in its 31st year, provides financial assistance to college-bound high school seniors and other Cambridge residents who wish to pursue post-secondary education.

In honor of National Public Health Week, please join us on Thursday, April 9th from 1-2:30 pm to volunteer to put together overdose prevention kits at the Cambridge Public Library, Central Square Branch. This year’s National Public Health Week theme "Ready. Set. Action!" calls on each of us to take part in community-driven solutions and daily actions that create healthier, more equitable, and connected communities. The You Can initiative (youcan.info) addresses overdose deaths by increasing access to lifesaving skills and resources statewide. Volunteers play a crucial role in this program by assembling the kits that are then mailed out across the state, getting lifesaving resources out to people and families who need them, free of cost. Each kit contains naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and other vital resources. Volunteers will be able to leave with a completed kit, if desired. Representatives from the Cambridge Health Department will also be onsite to provide additional resources and support. This program is a partnership between the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Health Resources in Action (HRiA) and hosted by the Cambridge Health Department and Cambridge Public Library.

Join the Central Square Book Group! This month, we're reading A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman in honor of Meet Your Neighbor month. Meet Your Neighbor Month is organized by the Cambridge Peace Commission every year. The 2026 theme, Stories We Share: The Courage to Connect, is inspired by Welcoming America's Welcoming Week, reminds us that meaningful connections often begin by listening to and learning from one another. Jacob Lavoie is a proud Cambridge resident, cheese lover, and the Program Director for Food & Wine at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education. With a background in wine and spirits, arts and culture, and lifelong learning, Jacob brings curiosity, creativity, and collaboration into the classroom. In this class, he invites students to explore the art of building a stunning and delicious cheese board perfect for entertaining or a cozy night in. Jacob will guide participants through selecting a balanced mix of cheeses, charcuterie, and flavorful accompaniments while sharing tips for thoughtful pairings, visual composition, and crowd-pleasing presentation. Students will leave with practical techniques they can use for future gatherings, celebrations, or weeknight treats, along with inspiration for wine pairings to elevate the experience. The class concludes with a communal tasting of cheese and charcuterie.
