Join us for a lively discussion of a great book in person at the Main Library! Snacks will be provided. For ages 7-9 and a parent or caregiver. This month's book is One-Third Nerd by Gennifer Choldenko. When Liam and his two younger sisters find out they will have to give away their beloved (if unhousebroken) dog Cupcake or risk being kicked out of their apartment, they cook up extreme and hilarious schemes to keep the dog. Copies of this month's book are available at the Children's Desk. Both caregiver and child should read the book before the discussion to participate. Darning is a fabric mending technique that involves reinforcing or re-weaving a portion of fabric by hand. In this workshop, we’ll learn how to visibly mend holes and weak areas in sweaters, socks, and other knit fabrics using seed stitch and square darning techniques. You’ll leave with a sampler of both techniques that you can refer back to when tackling your own darning projects at home. Suitable for beginners with little or no darning experience, though it does help if you have some experience with hand sewing. Registration Required.

Join guide Stefanie Haug while exploring our neighborhood nature and celebrating Elderhood. As a group we'll connect with nature and the neighborhood mindfully with a gentle walk and draw on contemplative practices. What to bring: layered clothing, comfortable shoes and water. Join Central Square's new cookbook club! This month, we're cooking from Dolly Parton's cookbook Good Lookin' Cookin': A Year of Meals. We invite children and their grown-ups to join us for a magical walk through nature. We will look for signs of fairies and build fairy houses. We will meet at Gerard Bergin Park (Haskell & Pemberton Streets), a short walk from the O'Neill Branch. In case of bad weather, this program will happen indoors at the O'Neill Branch. This program is presented as a part of the CPL Nature Club.

Join us as award-winning storyteller Motoko tells delightful folktales and leads hands-on origami activities. Motoko’s step-by-step instructions make the ancient Japanese art fun and accessible. No registration required. This event is intended for school-aged children and is open to drop-in attendees while space and supplies last. Join us for a collaborative experience where families build and battle robots together. This event is recommended for children ages 7 and up and their families. This program can accommodate 16 families. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis on the day of the program. The entire party must be present to receive a ticket. This program starts promptly. Unclaimed seats will be offered to someone waiting. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
