New Grants Now Available for Cambridge Small Businesses. Funds totaling $600,000 will be awarded through the City of Cambridge’s Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund for Small Businesses and the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority
The funding process will result in the awarding of grants of up to $6,000 per eligible applicant, which will not have to be repaid. Grant applications will only be accepted from April 14, 2021 until May 7, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. 
Results for America Awards Cambridge With Bloomberg Philanthropies What Works Cities Highest Level Certification for Exceptional Use of Data
Cambridge is proud to announce that Results for America has awarded it Bloomberg Philanthropies What Works Cities Platinum Certification for establishing exceptional data capabilities to inform policy, allocate funding, improve services, evaluate programs, and engage residents. The What Works Cities Certification standard reflects the practices, policies, and infrastructure municipalities must have in place to effectively harness data for better decision-making. Platinum is Bloomberg Philanthropies What Works Cities’ highest-level certification.
Water Quality Testing
Cambridge Water Department offers free tap water testing for lead and copper to Cambridge residents.
Homebound (i.e, in-home) Vaccination Eligibility
The Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) will be vaccinating homebound residents once the vaccine is available from the state. Currently, CPHD is working with Cambridge Housing Authority, Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Council on Aging, Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services, and other City departments to identify, screen, and register homebound individuals for their vaccines, and hopes to begin in-home vaccinations for those eligible sometime in April. This program is for people who would not otherwise be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine unless they receive it in their home. It does not include individuals who are temporarily homebound; and/or able to leave the home with adequate assistance; or those who would prefer to get a vaccine in their home.
Keeping Cambridge Clean ($100,000)
Replace 10 trash barrels and recycling containers, making them rodent-proof and environmentally friendly. Big Belly trash cans will keep the streets clean, prevent pests from being drawn to waste bins, and make it easier to properly dispose of different kinds of waste.
New Partnership Tracks COVID-19 Infections in Cambridge by Analyzing Wastewater
A new partnership with Biobot Analytics, Inc. in Cambridge offers a new approach to tracking COVID-19 outbreaks: analyzing wastewater. This week, for the first time, Cambridge will have access to local wastewater data that will serve as an early warning signal of increased COVID-19 infections in the city. This new monitoring tool will augment more traditional public health approaches for tracking and responding to disease outbreaks.
