Inspiring Cambridge Youth through STEAM
This summer, BioMed Realty and the City of Cambridge teamed up to provide local Cambridge teens with a valuable, hands-on introduction to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) careers at some of the world’s most innovative companies.
Championing Sustainability & Improving Our Community
Continued implementation of the Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP) guides development of Cambridge’s tree assets and enables the City to expand the urban forest canopy and be more resilient to climate change. In FY22, Public Works reached the UFMP ecommendation of planting 1,000 trees annually. To increase long-term survival of newly planted trees, Public Works has improved pre-planting soil preparation and post-planting aftercare. In fall 2021, over 10 tons of soil from composted yard waste was
used to plant 475 trees. Miyawaki Microforest.
Sustainable Cambridge
As our planet heats up, we all need to stay safe from extreme weather and move away from fossil fuels. Sustainable Cambridge includes all that we do to address climate change while keeping our community welcoming, neighborly, and beautiful.
Capital Building Projects
The Capital Building Projects Department was established in FY24, consolidating existing programs from the Executive Office and Public Works Department in order to continue to deliver high-quality professional management of the City’s expanding building improvement project portfolio.
