CPL International Briefing: The Situation in Sudan (Main)
Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Once allies in Sudan’s transitional government, tensions over the country’s political future and plans to integrate the RSF into the regular military led to open fighting in 2023. More than three years later, the war continues with devastating consequences for civilians, including widespread death, displacement, and food insecurity, creating a severe humanitarian crisis.
Join Professor Mai Hassan, Associate Professor of Political Science at MIT and Faculty Director of the MIT-Africa Program, for a conversation about the origins and ongoing consequences of the war, its humanitarian impact, and the challenges facing Sudan’s future. Registration is required.
