The loss of biodiversity and the impacts of climate change are pressing challenges, but small actions can lead to big change. Discover how you can make a difference by helping to protect urban ecosystems. Learn to observe and document the incredible interactions between plants, animals, and their habitats while contributing to EwA’s community-driven ecology science projects. In stressful times, collage can be a powerful practice for well-being and resilience. Join local artist Elena Stone to create collages in a relaxing, fun, and reflective community setting. We will use simple materials and a lightly structured process to promote creativity and connection. Materials will be provided but feel free to bring your own collage papers (e.g. old magazines, calendars, wrapping paper, etc.) to share. Registration is encouraged but not required.

Learn at your own pace to paint still life in a relaxed and welcoming environment. This class will introduce techniques in color mixing, observational painting and composition. You will come away from this class with beautiful watercolor paintings and a greater understanding and appreciation for the medium of watercolor. This class is for adults with all levels of experiences and will cover wet on wet and wet on dry techniques, masking, pressing, shading and light techniques, ink washes and pattern making. Registration is required and opens Thursday, May 7 at 10 a.m.

Meet neighborhood locations and greet your neighbors! Join Stefanie Haug, local mindful nature guide, as we explore Cambridge one neighborhood at a time, with a local library branch as our home base. These leisurely walks blend local history, nature, and contemplative practices, with lots of time to pause and share. Participants are encouraged to bring their own neighborhood stories, discover something new, and build connections with people and places. Our FINAL neighborhood walk in Cambridgeport and of this series of neighborhood walk from each of Cambridge’s public library branches. This walk will conclude at a local cafe nearby such as Andala Coffee House, Cicada Coffee Bar, Black Sheep Market, etc. What to bring: layered clothing, comfortable shoes and water. Where to meet: Central Square Branch Lobby. Registration is requested but not required.

Learn informally about Cambridge's pollinator biodiversity and why it's so important to grow and share food, strengthen and grow our local food economy, and most of all...to get our hands dirty while we get to know our neighbors, our community and our place in the world around us. Kids can make a pollinator finger puppet or take home a kit to make one.
