Our community has experienced many impacts and hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and has witnessed the resiliency and generosity of our city. In an effort to reflect on some of the most important events and milestones of the pandemic, we’ve created an interactive timeline to help remind us how far we’ve come.

The City of Cambridge is celebrating National Small Business Month in May 2023! Throughout the month join us for webinars and other events to provide resources to local small businesses and entrepreneurs, and to celebrate the importance of small businesses to Cambridge's vibrant community.

The Cambridge Charter Review Committee has been convened by the City Council to comprehensively review the City’s current charter and to recommend changes to ensure that Cambridge’s government meets the needs of our residents and is responsive to the challenges of today and beyond.

Children and families are invited to meet Jasmine Warga, award-winning and best-selling author of many popular middle-grade novels, including Massachusetts Children's Book Award winner A Rover’s Story and Newbery Honor winner Other Words for Home. Warga will talk about her work, answer questions from the audience and sign books. Porter Square Books will have books available for sale. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Registration is not required. About the Lecture The annual lecture is an initiative sponsored by the Cambridge Public Library, the Curious George Fund, and the Cambridge Public Library Foundation. The series aims to bring the community together to celebrate outstanding and engaging books for young readers. The MBTA Income-Eligible Reduced Fare Program offers discounted MBTA passes to eligible Cambridge residents between the ages of 18-64 who are enrolled in an approved state assistance program. Applicants need to provide a photo ID and proof of enrollment in a state assistance program.

Pursuant to Chapter 2 of the Acts of 2023 adopted by Massachusetts General Court and approved by the Governor, the Cambridge Retirement System is authorized to use remote participation at meetings of the Board.

The City of Cambridge, City of Somerville, and Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) invite community members to a public hearing on the Draft Updated Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Control Plan. The plan identifies projects and strategies to reduce combined sewer overflows in the Alewife Brook, Mystic River, and Charles River.

Applications to the Fuel Assistance Program, which helps low-income residents pay their winter heating bills, will be accepted through May 10.

Using 30 languages represented in Cambridge, the new Welcome poster states, “You are welcome here,” and was woven together in a quilt-like design to represent the City’s rich cultural diversity. It also contains text to remind community members of their right to receive services and information in their preferred language, regardless of their immigration status. We encourage you to display this poster in a public-facing area of your department, like a reception desk. The poster is intended to convey solidarity with our immigrant community members visually. It can also be used as a tool for visitors to indicate the language they prefer to communicate in, which will help City staff coordinate appropriate interpretation or translation follow up.
