The Department of Human Service Programs offers afterschool programs for Cambridge children in Kindergarten through 8th grade, designed to develop social and emotional growth. Young people enjoy a range of activities, explore interests, and build friendships. Afterschool programs run during the school year, from September - June.

He will be joined in conversation by Tom Perrotta—New York Times bestselling author of eleven works of fiction, including Election, Little Children, Mrs. Fletcher, The Leftovers, and Ghost Town. The Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) recently identified 32 cases likely connected to a children’s summer program in Cambridge. Of these cases, 20 were among students attending the program (all under age12); 3 were among staff and interns; and 9 were among household contacts of staff and students. Children and staff in the summer program were following proper mitigation measures, including wearing masks and washing their hands frequently. Several cases associated with the cluster were sequenced and identified as Delta variant cases.

Throughout this Public Health crisis, I have worked closely with the City’s Public Health team to ensure that we are making the most informed decisions possible to protect the health and welfare of the entire Cambridge community. As part of that effort, we have been working to identify options to care for our homeless community or those unable to safely isolate or quarantine at their residence during this time.

The City of Cambridge, Emergency Communications Department, Police Department, and Fire Departments are notifying the community of a nationwide cyber-attack against the OnSolve CodeRED emergency notifications system, and encouraging users of the system to immediately change their passwords.

The Cambridge Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit works all year to service the community by enforcing the rules of the road. Our goal is to reduce the number and severity of crashes in the city. Many of the current enforcement programs are a direct response to community complaints regarding speeding and other violations. The Department also spends time educating the public when there are any infrastructure changes, like new bike lanes or traffic patterns. We are committed to fostering greater traffic safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

A section of Garden Street between Huron Avenue and Concord Avenue will become a one-way for people driving as part of the Garden Street Safety Improvement Project.

Governor Charlie Baker announced a new set of initiatives aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, especially in higher risk communities that have seen a recent uptick in cases. While Massachusetts has seen a decrease in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations since May, there has been a slight uptick in certain communities in recent days.
