City Seizes Opportunity to Provide Testing to Residents
As new cases in Cambridge ticked upward, public health and city officials were especially concerned about COVID-19 transmission in skilled nursing and long-term care facilities, given that older adults are at greater risk from disease and death due to COVID-19. The Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) seized an opportunity to provide early intervention and support.

Read with a cuddly friend! Trained therapy dogs provide warm and nonjudgmental reading companions for new or experienced readers up to age 14. Registration for each 10-minute time slot is required and begins on Friday, September 6 by calling or visiting the O’Neill Branch (617-349-4023).
Notice of Board Vote - Alteration of Premises to Include or Expand Outdoor Areas
On April 30, 2024, Governor Maura Healy signed into law “An Act Making Appropriations for the Fiscal Year 2024 to Provide for Supplementing certain Existing Appropriations and for Certain Other Activities and Projects.” Based on the changes made by this law, applications for alteration of premises to include an outdoor area that serves alcohol no longer need ABCC approval. These applications will now only need local board approval. The law requires that each local board establish a process by which these requests will be considered.

Topics include Medicare benefits and coverage gaps, when to apply for Medicare, how to apply for Medicare, health insurance plans that work with Medicare, understanding premiums, deductibles and maximum out of pocket costs, and choosing the right supplement plan. It also covers special considerations and the consequences of not enrolling at the right time.
