Join us for a chess challenge. Players of all skill levels and all ages are welcome to participate. Chess sets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. This is not an instructional class, but rather a gathering for individuals who want to play and test their skills against other members of the community. There's no need to register in advance - simply drop by and challenge yourself to improve your mastery of this classic game! Drop in tech help at Valente can assist you with signing up for low-cost home internet, setting up your computer or mobile device, making an email account, navigating websites or databases, and other basic technology assistance. If you would like assistance with a device, please bring the device, all cords, and any account information. Library staff cannot be held responsible for damage to patron-owned equipment. The City of Cambridge offers free, one-on-one help to residents looking to lower their energy bills. Through the Cambridge Energy Helpline (617-430-6230), callers get connected to a trained adviser who can explain cost-saving programs, from fuel assistance and discount utility rates to solar credits and no-cost energy assessments. Support is available to renters, homeowners, and landlords alike—regardless of building type.

Join us outdoors for story time, chalk drawing and a special summer treat! This program will take place in the Central Square Library Plaza. In the event of rain, this program will be moved indoors to the Lewis Room. No registration required. Recommended for children of all ages and their caregivers.

Join us at Donnelly Field (behind the Valente Library) for a joyful celebration with musician and educator Otha Day! A Drum Circle is a highly interactive group of people who play drums and percussion instruments together to create in-the-moment music. Through the experience of rhythm and sound we experience what it means to beat as one heart: we become a vibrant community. This drum circle will include playful and accessible rhythm activities, games, traditional ensemble pieces, songs and most importantly, improvisation. No experience necessary; all ages can participate. No registration is required. In the event of rain, this program will move indoors to the Community Room of the Valente Branch. Funding for Vacation Week Programming: Live at the Library has been generously provided by the Cambridge Public Library Foundation.

Rodents have become a growing concern in urban environments, and Cambridge is no exception. To combat this, the City offers a free rodent control assistance program for residents of buildings with four or fewer units. This initiative, a partnership between the City and a private pest control company, provides professional inspections, baiting, trapping, and follow-ups within 60 days to help control rodent populations.
