Through this program, Electrify Cambridge will provide no-cost advising by technical specialists on all measures that can electrify a home or residential building. Those measures include heat pumps, solar panels, weatherization, water heaters, induction stoves, electric vehicle chargers, and more. The City of Cambridge announced that it is extending its successful program for feeding homeless residents with meals provided by local food establishments through December 31, 2020. In March, the City launched an innovative project to contract with local restaurants to provide food to the City’s homeless community during the COVID-19 public health crisis. To date, over 70,000 meals have been provided and more than 2,800 meals are now being delivered each week to shelters across the City.

The Cambridge City Council adopted an amendment to the Incentive Zoning Ordinance on October 17, 2022, which will increase funds for the City’s Affordable Housing Trust. This new amendment adds to the many tools Cambridge has put in place over the past few years to support affordable housing. Cambridge’s Affordable Housing Trust has commitments of more than $100 million to affordable housing developments currently underway to preserve or create more than 500 affordable homes when completed.

The Baker-Polito Administration announced a new initiative, the Vax Express, to help further increase access to the COVID-19 vaccine, particularly in communities with low vaccination rates. The Vax Express aims to further increase the Commonwealth’s vaccination rate by offering a unique, and community-focused approach to encourage more people to get vaccinated. Massachusetts continues to be a national leader in vaccination rates with 80 percent of adults having received at least one dose and over 3.9 million residents fully vaccinated.

The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of multiple temporary street closures throughout the week due to several community events. These include the Taste of Cambridge, the City of Cambridge Dance Party, and the Summer Classic 5K.

The City of Cambridge announced the appointment of 8 members to a new City Manager’s Small Business Advisory Committee. Representing business associations from across the City, the Advisory Committee will provide expert advice and help draft best practices that the City can incorporate into its “Small Business Back to Business” plan.
