As part of this year’s National Telecommunicators Week celebration, Emergency Communications is looking to hear from the community and better understand how dispatchers have helped residents. The Department is looking to have residents submit their stories, provide words of encouragement, and demonstrate thanks to show dispatchers how valuable they are.

The Cambridge Community Development Department, in collaboration with other city departments and guided by the Cambridge community, will craft a vision for the future of Mass Ave between Cambridge Common and Alewife Brook Parkway. The planning study will address topics of land use, urban design, housing, climate resiliency, small business support, mobility, and public space, as well as zoning recommendations for future development.

This is a low impact, easy to follow, 45-minute Latin-inspired dance class. This class is appropriate for older adults of all fitness levels and participants can go at their own pace.

Assigned to Special Operations & Safety and Emergency Management Divisions

This session will include representatives from both Civil Service and the CPD to discuss the exam, application and hiring process, required training, and career opportunities within the department. Any interested members of the community are encouraged to attend.

Residents and community members can organize an event anytime between September 14 and 22, though Sunday, September 15 is the official event day. We are hoping community members will plan events (e.g. cookout, block party, service project, etc.) that can bring together neighbors — in a way that works for them! A certified Crime Prevention Officer will come to your home, apartment, or business, FREE of charge, and conduct a “target-hardening” survey and offer advice on how to make the residence or business less susceptible to break-ins or crime.

Join the Cambridge Public Library in welcoming Rachel Slade, author of Making It in America: The Almost Impossible Quest to Manufacture in the U.S.A. (And How It Got That Way)—as well as the national bestseller, Into the Raging Sea—for the latest installment of the Our Path Forward Lecture Series. Slade's book, which follows a young couple in Maine trying to kickstart a lost industry, was named a Publishers Weekly "Top 10 Pick in Business and Economics." Cosmopolitan called Making It in America an "enlightening look at the history of manufacturing in America and how we got to where we are today." After the lecture, Slade will sit in conversation with Janelle Nanos, a business enterprise reporter at The Boston Globe and a finalist for a 2023 Pulitzer Prize, after which she will answer questions from the audience.
