Children and their grown-ups are invited to this special kid-centered cookbook club! This month, we're celebrating flatbreads of all varieties (pizzas included!) Bring a dish to share, or just come to talk about your experience with a chosen cookbook. No need to bring a dish to join. Visit Valente for a themed selection of cookbooks that are ready to check out. Registration is required; sign-ups available in-person at Valente or through calling at 617-349-4015. As the holiday season and shopping begins, potential criminals will look to perpetrate scams against shoppers and donors. The scams involve online shopping, charity, cryptocurrency investment, gift cards and social media. Online shopping schemes include fraudulent websites or ads offering goods at unrealistic discounts, items purchased through third-party marketplaces using stolen credit cards or accounts and puppy scams involving fake advertisements for pets. People should be on the lookout for fake charities soliciting donations through phone calls, emails, crowdfunding platforms, and social media. Also, copycat organizations create seemingly legitimate charities to steal funds. Gift card scams involve requests for gift card purchases for alleged emergencies, work-related functions, or as payment, or tampered cards with compromised security stickers or altered barcodes. Social media scams include posts offering fake gift cards or event tickets designed to steal personal information, or fraudsters duplicating ticket barcodes for resale.

The climate is changing, and we're all here on the planet together. Join us for a monthly community gathering and discussion of a variety of books about climate change. We will share thoughts, resources, and occasionally host special guests in a welcoming small-group environment. For our April meeting, we will discuss Here comes the sun: a last chance for the climate and a fresh chance for civilization by Bill McKibben. Copies of the print book are available at the Main Library Q&A Desk. The e-book is available on the Libby app and the e-audiobook is available immediately on the Hoopla app. This is a hybrid event. Join clinical herbalist Mo Katz-Christy for a walk around the Alewife Reservation to learn about the medicine, botany and magic of medicinal herbs. Love Fresh Pond Reservation? Give back to our urban oasis: volunteer! The beauty and ecological health of our Reservation requires constant care! Invasive weeds, which threaten wildlife habitat and Fresh Pond’s forests, meadows and wetlands, are a top concern. Volunteer weeding events are ongoing throughout the fall. Beginners are welcome. Learn about local botany and ecology while helping the Reservation! Long sleeves and pants are recommended to prevent contact with poison ivy. Tecnu will be available. Temporary parking permits will be available for free for volunteers coming from out of town. Wednesday evening weeding sessions occur through September, meeting at the trailer in the Cambridge Water Department parking lot at 250 Fresh Pond Parkway.

You’re invited to our July Brewery Book Club, where Lamplighter and the Cambridge Public Library team up to highlight contemporary works from marginalized voices while having a beer. We meet at Lamplighter Brewing Co., 284 Broadway, in the back taproom. This month we’ll read Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor. Copies of the book are available at the Main Library Q&A Desk. The e-book and digital audiobook can be borrowed through the Libby app. We’ll gather in the Lamplighter back taproom to discuss the book, what we learned from it, what we found ourselves touched by, and all other thoughts.
