CPL Nature Club: Reading with Ducks from Land's Sake Farm (Valente Reading Garden)
Meet a swimming, quacking friend at a duck-themed story time, learn about duck behavior and anatomy, and do a themed activity! Best of all, in the Duck Circle, youth are able to touch and interact with a live duck. Due to the particularly fine weather, this program will meet in the Valente Reading Garden, at the corner of Cambridge Street and Berkshire Street. This program is for children of all ages, with a caregiver. Registration is required. When registering, please indicate how many children are attending. Art Talks for Older Adults: Tulipmania and Dutch Flower Painting
Let’s take a look at the events of the 1630s when speculators drove up the prices of tulip bulbs to dizzying heights. The development of Dutch flower painting and the phenomenon known as “tulipmania” share the same root causes in 17th century Netherlands; that is, an interest in objects of great appeal and rarity, whether just for their beauty or their scientific notoriety. But what was really happening and has it been overblown in history? We will discover where the practice of flower painting began for the Dutch, in response to the value of live flowers; a practice of painting beautiful still lives that continues today.
CYP Atlanta Trip
This spring, fifteen Cambridge teens traveled to Atlanta to explore Black history, celebrate Black joy, and discover future opportunities. The trip was part of Cambridge Youth Programs’ out-of-state travel program, which invites recognized leaders in CYP’s teen programs on trips to tour Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Broadway Park AHO Community Meeting
JAS held an initial community meeting on January 14th, 2025 to introduce themselves and the project to the community. They are holding another community meeting on July 24th at 6 p.m. at 243 Broadway, Cambridge and via Zoom to present updated designs and to collect feedback.
