This December, applications will open for the Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP), a joint initiative of the City and Cambridge Public Schools, which will offer free school-day, school-year preschool to every 4-year-old in Cambridge and some 3-year-olds.

The Community Safety Department is a fully funded city department that exists outside of the traditional scope of public safety. The Louis A. DePasquale Universal Design Playground, located at Danehy Park between Field Street and the Briston Arms residential complex, is the first in Cambridge to fully incorporate Universal Design (UD) - the concept that all parts should be as usable as possible, without changes, by everyone.

On approximately June 29th, 2018, the MBTA Commuter Rail (which is operated by Keolis Commuter Services) started sounding the train horns at the Sherman Street crossing in North Cambridge. We recognize that the noise from the horns is disturbing residents at all hours of the day, and are therefore moving as quickly as possible to install a solution that will allow the MBTA/Keolis to stop sounding the train horns. At the same time, we recognize the safety hazards created by grade crossings that do not meet the current standards for a Quiet Zone, and therefore want to ensure that we install the proper safety measures to resolve this situation.

The City of Cambridge has confirmed that its Temporary Emergency Construction Moratorium, which was originally instituted on March 18, 2020 on all construction activity for both public and private property will remain in place. Additionally, the City today released guidance to contractors that are approved to work during the moratorium. This new guidance is part of the City’s continuing efforts and commitments to safeguard the health of construction workers, all other workers associated with the construction industry and members of the public.
