Neighborhood Conservation Districts were established by city ordinance in 1983. Conservation district designation recognizes a distinctive physical environment that reflects the architectural, cultural, political, economic, or social history of the city. NCDs foster wider public knowledge and appreciation of such neighborhoods. Designation encourages the conservation and maintenance of these areas so that the city may be a more attractive and desirable place in which to live and work.

The application period for Homeowners Rehab Inc. (HRI)’s 29-unit affordable development at 4 Mellen Street in Cambridge is now open. Click here to fill out the application online. The North Cambridge Senior Center is hosting a workshop where participants can create their own songs using an AI-powered music tool. No musical experience required!

This is a story about “John.” If you have visited Harvard Square anytime over the last two decades, there is a good chance you have come across John. He is one of the more well-known, long-term unhoused Cambridge residents in the Harvard Square area. But you might not know where his story started and how the Cambridge Police Department, Harvard Square Business Association, Healthcare for the Homeless, and many other agencies have been coming together to support John over the years.

Applications can be submitted online or by phone. Messages may be left in English or in separate voicemail boxes in Amharic, Arabic, Bangla, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, and Spanish and a City staff person will return calls to applicants to assist in completing the application by phone.
