Somerville Resident Arrested on Gun & Drug Charges
Abdul Ahmed, 52, of Somerville, was placed under arrest by Cambridge Police on charges of Shoplifting by Asportation, Carrying a Firearm and Ammunition without a License to Carry, Possession of a Class A Drug (suspected heroin / fentanyl), Possession of a Class B Drug (suspected crack cocaine), and Possession of a Class E Drug (prescription pills).

Community Update from Cambridge Police Commissioner Elow on January 4th Fatal Shooting
Following the tragic January 4th fatal police shooting of Arif Sayed Faisal, there have been calls by members within and beyond the Cambridge community for greater transparency, including the public release of the involved officer’s name. Please find an update with the latest information on steps that have been and are being taken since that tragic day.
May 16 Weekend Road Closures
The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of multiple temporary street closures throughout the weekend due to scheduled community events on May 16-18, 2025. Events include Saint Anthony’s Santo Cristo Feast, Port Art Fest, the Peoples Party Music Festival, the 72nd Annual BB&N Circus, and Inman Eats & Crafts.
Cambridge Commemorates End of COVID-19 Public Health Emergency
Today marks the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency in Massachusetts and the country.
The City of Cambridge marked this somber occasion with an event at the COVID-19 memorial located at the Cambridge Cemetery. Cambridge Peace Commission Executive Director Brian Corr, Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, City Manager Yi-An Huang, and Chief Public Health Officer Derrick Neil spoke at the event and placed flowers next to the memorial.
Suspect Arrested in Connection with Gunshots Incident on August 27th in Cambridge
Curtis Preston, 32, Everett, was arrested this morning in Boston. He will face multiple charges out of Cambridge after a warrant was issued for his arrest, including Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession a Firearm without an FID Card, and Possession of a Firearm During Intimidation of a Witness.
CPL Nature Club: Morning Bird Watching Walk at Mount Auburn Cemetery (O'Neill)
Join us for a morning walk at one of the most renowned birdwatching spots in Cambridge, Mount Auburn Cemetery! We will help you identify birds, learn birdwatching tips and tricks, and familiarize yourself with migratory birds as well as those that can be spotted all year round. A limited supply of binoculars will be available.
The walk will meet at the Bird Sighting Board near the front entrance of Mt. Auburn Cemetery at 10:15 am.
Registration is required. This event can only accommodate a certain number of participants. One registration is good for one person. If you do not register, you cannot participate. Those on the waitlist will be contacted if a space becomes available.
