Dec. 1 to 3 and Dec. 8 to 10

Start the year off right by getting to know Cambridge birds! All ages are welcome to join us as we observe birds at Fresh Pond, which provides habitat for many different species at all times of the year. This event will focus on birds that can be found in the winter in Cambridge, including several species of ducks, sparrows and more. We may also see some of our year-round resident birds, and we will discuss general birdwatching tips and learn more about the birds we share our outdoor spaces with. A limited supply of binoculars will be available. Please dress accordingly as we will be outside for the entire walk. Registration is required for this event. Alexander W. Kemp Playground at Cambridge Common was renovated in 2009 and includes a variety of play features to stimulate challenging physical activity as well as creative, exploratory, imaginative and social play for kids of all ages.

All signs must be certified by the City of Cambridge prior to display.

Cool Spots are public spaces where community members are encouraged to gather, connect, and cool off. In the first round of implementation completed in June 2025, four pilot locations for Cool Spots have been launched across the City.

Join us at the Valente Branch to write your own secret messages with invisibe ink! The library will provide all required materials. This program is recommended for ages children ages 5 and up, and their guardians.

Swing by for updates on Just A Start's (JAS) affordable homeownership development located at 35 Cherry Street in the Port neighborhood of Cambridge. JAS and Davis Square Architects will be available to answer questions about the project.

The third annual drive will aim to raise $50,000 to provide gift cards to residents in need during the holidays

This month's selection: How I Won a Nobel Prize by Julius Taranto. While Collins is closed for construction, this book group will meet virtually and in person at the Boudreau Branch. Please register below if you would like to attend via Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants one hour before the event. Registration is encouraged, but not required. Join herbalist Mo Katz-Christy for a meander through the neighborhood to meet city plants and explore their medicinal uses! We will explore weeds and cultivated plants, trees and shrubs, and have lots of space for questions and conversation. Bring a notebook if you like, and meet us at the Central Square Branch Library. Note this program begins at the library but will then walk throughout the neighborhood -- arriving late may mean you miss the group at the library and will not be able to catch up.
