Alpacas from the Harvard Alpaca Ranch will be visiting the library for an educational program and meet and greet. Join us to learn more about alpacas and take some time to say hello! This event is intended for school-age children. Registration is not required. Celebrate the breathtaking art of Xiang Li, featuring over a dozen selected canvas portraits of Chinese empresses. Meet the artist Xiang Li and her daughter Fei Wu (the mother-daughter team) in person, hear their artist talk and presentation, and enjoy a relaxed and engaging conversation. Ask questions, connect, and discover the stories behind the art. Light refreshments will be provided.

Join Cambridge native and former Master Chef contestant, Malcolm Green, as he prepares stuffed salmon with shrimp and spinach, topped with a Creole cream sauce, in celebration of Black History Month as part of the Cambridge Cooks Series. Cambridge Cooks promotes healthy eating and the local restaurant scene by inviting a local chef for a cooking demo followed by a tasting.

Co-sponsored by the Cambridge Public Library and the Cambridge Public Library Foundation, the Boston Globe columnist, Barbara Wallraff will speak about her career and column on language, “May I have a word?”. She has had a long career in journalism, primarily as a copy editor, starting at Boston Phoenix then at the Atlantic and today as a columnist at the Globe.

Join us for the unveiling of the new, community-inspired mural along Pemberton Street, on the retaining wall at Rindge Field between Haskell Street and Yerxa Road, on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2023, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Free.
